Before your first appointment
What happens in a telehealth counselling session?
Telehealth counselling is a professional counselling appointment held by phone, secure video or, where offered, written counselling. You can participate from a private place without travelling to a clinic.

Before the session
Choose the format that feels most accessible. Video can help some people feel connected, but it is not compulsory at MEB Counselling. A phone session can reduce screen fatigue, while written counselling can give you more time to find words.
Find as much privacy as you reasonably can, check your device or phone connection and keep water nearby. You do not need a perfect room, a polished story or a list of goals. It can help to note the one thing you most want Meg to understand.
During the first appointment
The first session usually includes what has brought you, what is happening now and what would make support useful. Meg may ask about important relationships, health, work, culture, safety and the services around you. You can say if a question feels too much, ask to slow down or take a pause.
The session may include reflection, practical planning or gentle body-aware work. You and Meg can discuss what pace and format feel sustainable rather than forcing a fixed process.
Afterwards
Give yourself a little transition time if possible. Some people feel relieved; others feel tired, thoughtful or emotionally stirred. You can decide whether another appointment would be useful—booking one session does not lock you into ongoing therapy.
Privacy and urgent support
Use a private place and your own device where possible. MEB Counselling is not an emergency or crisis service. Call 000 if there is immediate danger, or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 for crisis support in Australia.
Choose a format that works for you.
Sessions are available across Australia by phone, secure video or written counselling.
